L'Ardoise- Funeral services will be held here today for Mrs. Annie Peters, 87, widow of Joseph Peters. Requiem high mass will be at Guardian Angel church at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Born in L Ardoise, she lived in Sydney and the last 13 years with a daughter, Mrs. Herb Lapholder. Surviving are three sons. Thomas, L'Ardoise; Alex and John, Sydney; seven daughters, Mrs. Cecil Smith, and Alvina, Halifax; Mrs, Constance Samson, Hamilton; Mrs. Fabian Brian, L'Ardoise; Mrs. Lapholder and Mrs. Hubert Petitpas, Sydney. The Body is at the Fabian Briand residence, L'Ardoise.

Felix Leo Pottie 71, of West L'Ardoise, Richmond County, was buried in L'Ardoise Aug. 20, following funeral service in Church of the Guardian Angel, L'Ardoise. He died Aug. 17 in Sydney Hospital. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Rose Martell; four daughters, Teresa (Mrs. Nelson Gervais), Aylmer, Que.; Louise (Mrs. Allister Pottie), West L'Ardoise; Bernice, (Mrs. Allan Drake), Dartmouth; Rose (Mrs. Andre Simard), L'Assumption, Que.; six sons, Leo, Charles, Edmond, Edward, of L'Ardoise; LeRoy and Nelson at home; 44 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

George I. Pottie, of West L'Ardoise, was buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery Friday, following funeral services in Holy Guardian Angels Church, West L'Ardoise. He died March 3 at his home. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Isidore Pottie. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Yvonne; two daughters, Miss Cecilla Pottie, Rockdale; Jan (Mrs. Walter Martell), Halifax; eight sons, Andre, Montreal; Richard, Berwick; Francis, Victor, Joseph and Leroy at home; Louchie and Cyril in Halifax; a brother, Fred, West L'Ardoise. Three daughters, Margaret Jane, Anne Jane and Annie Rose, A sister, Cassie and a brother, Clancey, are dead.

Born in L'Ardoise the son of Elizabeth and the late Michael S. Pottie. Surviving besides his mother, ar two brothers Allister and Maxwell, both of L'Ardoise; four sisters, Dorris (Mrs. Floyd C. Votaw), California; Eva (Mrs, Keith Lohnes), and Helen (Mrs. Joseph Cotswell), both of Lakeside; Monica (Mrs. Bernard Gareau), Dartmouth.

His wife, the former Mabel Bona predeceased him.

Born in Lower L'Ardoise, Richmnod Co., she was the daughter of the late Willam and Maria (Martell) Bona. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Roseanne Grant, Port Hawkesbury; Bernadette Duffy, Harrietsfield; Virginia Sampson, Halifax; a son, Cyril. Lower Sackville; a stepdaughter, Mary Pottie, and a stepson, Willam Pottie, both of West L'Ardoise; a sister, Mary Boudreau, Lower L'Ardoise; a brother Ned Bona, Rockdale; an adopted daughter, Elizabeth Sampson, West L'Ardoise; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Maurice Sampson; her second husband Henry R. Pottie; a daughter Evangeline Hanson, an infant son; three sisters, two brothers and an infant granddaughter. The body is in L'Ardoise Parish Funeral Home. Funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Holy Guardian Angel Church, L'Ardoise, Rev. Basil Boudreau officiating. Burial will be in L'Ardoise Cemetery.

Quinten Robert Peters, 41, of 79 Jackson, Road, Dartmouth, died Thursday at Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Lower L’Ardoise, Cape Breton, He was the son of Existe and Florence (Sampson) Peters. At the time of his death, he was employed with Capitol Stores in Halifax, and was a former employee of IGA. He was a member of St. Clement’s Parish and the Independent Order of Foresters. He was a coach with the north Dartmouth Minor Baseball League. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, the former Wendy Elias, a son, Craig at home; four sisters, Angeline (Mrs. Morris Luciano), Halifax; Emeline (Mrs. Laven Gerroir), Dartmouth; Marjorie, Toronto; Jean (Mrs. Jean Louis Rochette), Cornwall, Ontario; five brothers, Charles, St. Peter’s; James, L’Ardoise; George, Joseph and Gerard, all of Halifax. He was predeceased by a brother, Sylvester. The body is in Atlantic Funeral Home, Main Street, Dartmouth, with visiting hours 7-9-p.m. today. Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, Rev. Robert Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Joseph Alexander Peters, 29 Atlantic Street, Sydney died Thursday, May 15 at St. Rita Hospital, Sydney.  Born in L’Ardoise, Richmond County, he was the son of the late Joseph Alexander and Anna Martell Peters.  He was employed as carpenter at Sydney Steel Corporation until his retirement in 1974.  He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12.  Mr. Peters was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish and was an active member on several parish committees.  He is survived by his wife the former Josephine Gillis; four daughters, Anne Marie (Mrs. John G. MacDonald) Dutch Brook; Alvina, Labrador, Linda and Delores both at home; six sisters; Emma (Mrs. Fabian Briand) and Mrs. Eva Briand both of L’Ardoise, Mrs. Mary Samson and Alvina (Mrs. Harvey Hendsbee) both of Halifax, Mrs. Elizabeth Lapolder and Phyllis (Mrs. Hubert Pettipas) both of Sydney and four grandchildren.  Besides his parents he was predeceased by two brothers; Thomas Peters and John McPhee and one sister Anna.  The body will rest at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel today after 7 p.m.  The funeral mass will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. from St. Joseph’s Church with Reverend Norman MacPhee officiating.  Interment will be made in Resurrection Cemetery.  Donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association.

On September 31, 1926, he married Phyllis Peters of L'Ardoise, Richmond County and they resided for many years at 27 Morrison St., where they raised a family of 11 children. He was employed at Sydney Steel, retiring in 1972 after 45 years of service. Since 1986, they have resided at 9 Victoria Hill, Westmount. PETERS, Charles Alexander - 69, Grande Greve, St. Peter's, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 1997, in Strait Richmond Hospital. Born in Lower L'Ardoise, Richmond Co., he was a son of the late Existe and Florence (Sampson) Peters. During the Second World War, he served in the Merchant Navy, for which he received the Atlantic Star. He was employed with the Canadian Coast Guard and in 1966, he joined the staff of the Coast Guard College in Westmount as seamanship instructor. He retired in 1985 with 35 years of service. After his retirement, he devoted most of his time as an active member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 47, St. Peter's, becoming a life member. At the time of his death, he was president of that branch, having held the position for the last six years. POTTIE-MOMBOURQUETTE, Catherine "Kate" - Lower L'Ardoise. Passed away at Richmond Villa, where she resided since 1990, on Tuesday, May 25, in her 100th year. Born Catherine Anne Floyd, on March 22nd., 1899 in Springfield, Antigonish Co., she was the daughter of the late John Floyd and Mary MacDonald. Kate lived in Sydney during her growing up years and then moved to Portsmouth, Ohio, and Baltimore, Md. In 1931, as a young widow and mother she moved to L'Ardoise where she made her home. Kate was an active member of the Ladies Social Club, and a strong promoter of the Miraculous Medal. In previous years she was a member of the CWL and at the time of her death she was still a member of the ladies auxiliary of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 110. She will always be remembered by her family and members of her community as a loving and considerate lady, ever loyal to family and friends and always gracious and hospitable in her home. She is survived by son, Walter Pàté (Jean Casey), Delta, B.C.; a daughter, Mary (Joe Sampson), Malden, Mass.; six grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchidlren; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Walter Pottie in 1931 and her second husband, George A. Mombourquette in 1967; an infant son, Edmond; sisters, Mary Mugford, Alice Floyd and Nellie Troke; brothers, Johnnie and Duncan Floyd. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.today in Holy Guardian Angels Parish Funeral Home. Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, in Holy Guardian Angels Church, L'Ardoise, Rev. PETTIPAS, Daniel - 102, Dartmouth, died March 3, 2000, in Melville Lodge in Halifax. Born November 15, 1897, in L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Longaphy) Pettipas. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was employed at Defence Research Establishment Atlantic until he retired. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Church. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, the former Mary Arsenault; son, Fred and wife Margaret; grandsons, Mike and Chris; great-grandsons, Brendon and Jonathan; great- granddaughter, Jennifer. POTTIE, EDWARD JOSEPH _ 88, Halifax, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2001, in Armview Estates Nursing Home. Born in L'Ardoise, Cape Breton, N.S., he was the son of the late Frank and Alice (Pettipas) Pottie. He started his working career in the shipping office of Boutiliers Limited in downtown Halifax in 1927. Twenty years later he became co_owner of the business, retiring in 1972. In 1958 he was chairman of the Business Committee of the Halifax Infirmary expansion drive. He was a member of the Building Committee for Canadian Martyrs Church and was a member of that church at the time of his death. He was a captain on the building fund drive for St. Vincent's Guest House. He was a life member, Third Degree Knights of Columbus. Ed was an avid sportsman. He was a former member of the Brightwood Golf and Country Club and also a past member of the Mayflower Curling Club. Over the years, he also enjoyed fishing and lawn bowling. Surviving are two sons, Bob (LaVonne), Dave (Sandra), both of Lower Sackville; daughters, Barbara (Bill McCarron), Lower Sackville and Susan (Barry Sibley), Wellington; six grandchildren and one great_grandchild; brothers, Robert (Cora), Calgary; Vincent, Dartmouth; Gordon (Odette), Chateauguay, Quebec; Martin (Noreen), Lower Sackville. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Beulah Knight; two brothers, James and Frank, and two brothers in infancy. Rose worked at the L'Ardoise Credit Union, for the past 19 years in many capacities, including assistant manager. Rose also served on the board of directors for the W.B. Kingston Memorial Clinic in L'Ardoise. Rose will be sadly missed and forever remembered by her family and many friends, for her wonderful spirit, caring ways and strong faith. He is survived by his children, Len (Cindy) Pottie, Cheryl (Lloyd) Prior, Steve (Mechell) Pottie, Denise (Miles) Denny; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother, John Clancy; sisters, Ethel, Roseanne, Cecille. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris; eight brothers and sisters. Cremation to take place. There will be no visitation or funeral service as per his request. A private family service will be held. PETERS, George Edward - 75, Cheticamp, died May 21, 2006, in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Born in L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late Existe and Florence (Sampson) Peters. He was a member of St. Peter's Church, Cheticamp. George worked as a cook at the Lord Nelson Hotel in Halifax for 13 years and also at the Victoria General Hospital for 27 years. He retired in 1990 and made his home in Cheticamp. He was an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 32, Cheticamp. Surviving are his wife, Beatrice (Larade) Peters; sons, Roger (Rhoda) Peters, Halifax; Richard (Pam) Peters, Ottawa, Ont.; brother, Gerard (Lorraine) Peters, Halifax; sisters, Emeline (Laffin) Gerrier, Dartmouth; Jean (Johnny) Rochette, Cornwall, Ont.; Marjorie Peters, Halifax; grandchildren, Ellen, Michael, Kyle, Nicole; stepgrandson, Christopher. He was predeceased by brothers, Charlie, Joseph, James, Quintin, Sylvester; sister, Angeline Luciano. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in Cheticamp Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial mass will be offered on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, Cheticamp, Father Peter LeBlanc officiating. PATTERSON (Buckler) (Briand), Marjorie Beatrice - 89, Halifax. It is with a heavy heart that I announce the peaceful passing of my mother, my friend, on Thursday, November 23, 2006. Marj was surrounded by her loving family in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII, where a vigil was maintained over the past two weeks. Born in Halifax on September 1, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Barrett) Briand. She was a survivor of the Halifax Explosion and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a dedicated homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her loving daughter, Jacqueline (Douglas) Bowman, Halifax; grandsons, Dougie J. Bowman, Paul (Dolores), Peter Rice; great-grandchildren Christopher, Christina, Catherine, and many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, John "Jack" Buckler, in 1959; second husband, Harold "Hal" Patterson, in 1997; the traumatic loss of her daughter Gloria (Harry) Rice; brothers, Harold (Jenny), Arthur (Margaret) Briand, and sister and best friend, Florence (Louis) Moro. Cremation has taken place A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 29, at 10 a.m. In St. Lawrence Parish, Dutch Village Road, Halifax. A reception will follow. He was predeceased by brothers, Wilfred Leo Pottie and Joseph Leo Roach; nephew, Michael Pottie. PETERS, Emeline Mary - 102, L'Ardoise, Richmond Co., passed away peacefully in Strait Richmond Hospital on November 4, 2007. She was a daughter of the late Pascal and Jane (Martell) Samson. Emeline spent many years living in L'Ardoise where she cared for the sick and elderly in her home. She lived unassisted in her own home until earlier this year and still enjoyed going to church every week. She is survived by sisters, Rose Samson, L'Ardoise; Mary Doe, Mississauga, Ont.; granddaughter, Andrea (Peter) Halley, Dartmouth; and great-grandson, Hayden, Dartmouth. She was predeceased by sisters, Mae Kawuza, Delia Rogers, Irene Gaudet, Emma Martell; brothers, Wallace, Clarence, Leo, Gerald, Gordon; first husband, Bertram Martell; second husband John Peters; and her girls, Viola Samson and Jean MacDonald. No visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter's. Funeral service will take place Thursday, November 8, at 11 a.m. in Holy Guardian Angel Church, L'Ardoise, with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery. William was born on November 12, 1929, to the late Henry and Sadie (Martell) Pottie. He spent his working years as a fisherman for 15 years and as a janitor for the Strait Richmond School Board for over 20 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sarah; children, Shirley (Norman) Johnson, Allan Pottie, Russell (Donna) Pottie, Richard (Paula) Pate, Karen (Martin) Evong, and William (Ann) Pottie; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Holy Guardian Angels Funeral Home, L'Ardoise. POTTIE, James Henry - 82, Church Street, Antigonish, formerly of Heatherton, passed away May 12, 2008, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in L'Ardoise, Richmond Co., he was a son of the late Charles R. and Mabel (Bona) Pottie. He was employed in the janitorial department of St. F.X. University for over 15 years. Jim lived for his wife and family and took great joy in his grandchildren. He was very fond of fiddle music, especially the MacMasters. He loved to garden, and friends and family gladly reaped the benefits of his potato field. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Anna Theresa (Mills); son, Brian (Theresa), Lochaber Road; sisters, Eleanor LeRue and Beatrice Gracie, L'Ardoise; brother, Gordon, Halifax; grandchildren, Sarah, Ginny, Christopher, and Andrew. He was predeceased by sisters, Christina Pottie and Theresa Carpenter; brothers, Fred, Alonzo, and John. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St., Antigonish. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton, with Rev. Charles Cameron presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
