Jan.1,1947 William O'Keefe Grand Lake Road Resident Dies
A well known and highly respected resident of Grand Lake Road, William H.
O'Keefe died last evening at his residence there after an illness of four
months. The late Mr. O'Keefe was born at Lingan Road, a son of Patrick
O'Keefe and Anne Shaw and was in his 74 th year. Before moving to Grand
Lake, he worked at Reserve and New Waterford collieries and after taking
up residence at Grand Lake he was employed at a sectionman on the Sydney
Louisbourg railroad, retiring eight years ago. Twice married his first
wife precedeased him twelve years ago and he survived by his second wife,
and one son Patrick O'Keefe at Bridgeport; two daughters, Mrs. Allan
McMullin, 9th St., New Waterford and Margaret O'Keefe at home.
Grandchildren are: Patricia, Billy and Gregory O'Keefe. Stepchildren are:
Mrs. Alf Higgenbottom, Grand Lake Road; William Usher, New Waterford; Dan
Usher, South Bar; Joe Usher, Gardiner Mines; and George Usher, Lingan
Road. The funeral will be held on Friday morning to Immaculate Conception
Church, Bridgeport and burial will be in Ocean Ave. Cemetery.

OAKLEY, Mary Effie - 83, Lower L'Ardoise, passed away December 3, 2004, in
Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in L'Ardoise, she was the
daughter of the late Sylvester and Annie (Briand) Martell. She was the
beloved wife of 61 years of Kenneth; cherished mother of Anne Drouillard,
Walter (Nancy), Ontario; Diane (Bill) Heighton, Dartmouth; Geraldine (Binney)
Leslie, Dartmouth; Agnes, L'Ardoise; Pat (Heather), New Brunswick; Joseph,
Ottawa; Cornelius (Christine), L'Ardoise; Theresa (Keith), Halifax; Paul
(Sabrina), New Brunswick; Joanne (Stephen), L'Ardoise; Lesa (Paul),
L'Ardoise; loving grandmother of 18 grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren. Mary was a lifetime member of the L'Ardoise Fire
Department Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the L'Ardoise Auxiliary Legion
Branch 110. She was a devoted member for many organizations and functions
in the community. She was predeceased by brother, Cornelius, and
son-in-law, Gerald Drouillard. She will be sadly missed by nieces, nephews
and many dear friends. A chance to share memories with family and friends
will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
in Holy Guardian Angels Funeral Parlor. Funeral mass will be offered
Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Guardian Angels Church with Rev. Barrett Clair
Johnson officiating. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to the L'Ardoise Fire Department or a charity of choice.
Arrangements are under the dignified direction of J.F. Greene Funeral
Services Limited, Port Hawkesbury.

O'BRIEN, Carl Francis "Sonny" - 66, L'Ardoise. It is with deep affection
and sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Sonny on October 1,
2006, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, after a courageous four year
struggle with cancer. Born in L'Ardoise, he was a son of Mary O'Brien and
the late Charlie O'Brien. He is survived by children, Kathy (Bill) Roy,
Lac La Biche, Alta.; Robert (Charlotte), Mulgrave; Thomas (Charmaine),
Lower Sackville; grandchildren, David, Curtis, and Thomas Jr., and
great-grandson, Austin, who loved Papa dearly; sister, Hilda (Malcolm)
Shaw and Ann (Joseph) Briand; brothers, Cyril (Sherry), Kentville; Raymond
(Myra), L'Ardoise; many other family and friends, especially Vince and Ann
Burke, Vince being Sonny's quad buddy. Cremation has taken place. No
visitation by request. Funeral mass to take place 10:30 a.m. Saturday,
October 7, in Holy Guardian Angels Church, Father Barrett Clair-Johnson
officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Funeral under the
compassionate care of Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter's. Memorial
donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
