On May 2 of inflammation of the lungs, Deline, beloved wife of Pascal Mauborquette, died in the 46th year of her age, leaving a sorrowing husband and a large circle of friends to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate wife. Also Mrs. Fehem Mauborquette, who departed this life on the 6th,in the 64th year of her life. May their souls rest in peace.

Mrs. Geo. Maubourquette of L'Ardoise, died there on Saturday after a long illness. She was the mother of Rev. Father Maubourquette of Thorburn and was a lady highly respected and esteemed buy all her acquaintance.

Glace Bay, Charles Masters - Aug.18 - The death of Charles Masters, 35, occurred this morning in the Glace Bay General Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Halifax and was employed as a dockyard worker. Besides his widow he is survived by two sons, Aflred, Wayne and a daughter Mary all of L'Ardoise and his mother Mrs. Hillaire Gracie at L'Ardoise. Sisters are: Emma in Montreal; Mrs. Ernest Sampson, L'Ardoise; brother Walter Masters, L'Ardoise and a stepbrother Albert Gracie, also of L'Ardoise. The funeral will be held at L'Ardoise and burial in the parish cemetery on Thursday morning.

[Jan 5th] Surviving are four daughters, Anna, Mrs. Hubert Sampson, Maimi; Florence, Mrs Robert Wardrope, Hawaii; Mrs Alfred Murray, Boston; Mrs. Linda Mombourquette, L'Ardoise; two sons, Clarence at home; Harvey, Halifax. He was a member of Guardian Angel Parish.

The funeral for James Mombourquette, L'Ardoise who died suddenly there at the age of 85, was held Wednesday from the Guardian Angel Church. Interment was in the church cemetery. Mr. Mombourquette was predeceased by his wife. He is survived by five sons, George, Francis, Isaac all at home, William of Spryfield and Henry of Halifax; and four daughters, Mrs. Victoria Mariner, Loch Lomond, Cape Breton, Mary (Mrs. Emery Slate) of Spryfield, Matilda (Mrs. Thomas Clannon) and Evangeline, Mrs. Stephen Martell, both at home.

L'Ardoise West-Charles Alfred Mombourquette, aged 62, died at his home in L'Ardoise West Friday after a lengthy illness. He was employed as a carpenter for a number of years and operated a grocery store for a short time. He was a member of Holy guardian Angel parish, and the vice-president of the Richmond county Progressive conservative Association. Mr. Mombourquette is survived by his wife the former Annie May Briand; two sons, Samuel, Halifax and Alexander L'Ardoise West. two daughters, Joan (Mrs. James Duggan) Halifax and Annette (Mrs. Jerome Martell),  L'Ardoise West and one brother Frank, L'Ardoise West and St. Peter's. Funeral Will be held Tuesday in time for ...... High Mass, at 10 a.m. at the Holy Guardian Angel Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Edward F. Mombourquette, 79 of L'Ardoise, Richmond County, died yesterday at his home. He was Born in L'Ardoise and was the son of the late Felix Mombourquette and Annie Thibeau. Mr. Mombourquette is survived by; his wife the former Annie Berrett; seven daughters, Agnes (Mrs. Fabie Deveau), Theresa, (Mrs. Harry Johnson), Laura, (Mrs. Basil Fogarty), Annie Mae, (Mrs. Harry LeRue), all of Halifax; Margaret ( Mrs. MacAvoy), Elizabeth, (Mrs. Herbert Roy), Lillian, (Mrs. Earl Ellis); and four sons. Paul of Westphal, Dan of Halifax, Felix and Alfred at home; two brothers, James at L'Ardoise, and Murdock at Halifax, 17 grandchildren and five great-grand children. His body is at his home in L'Ardoise. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Holy Guardian Angel church, L'Ardoise. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his father, Albert; his wife, Alice; two sons Gerald and Robert; daughter, Linda, all in St. Eustache; three sisters, Irene (Mrs. Cyril Jones), Halifax; Rose (Mrs. Ronald Lawrence), California; Lola (Mrs. T. St. Louis), Quebec; two brothers, Edward and Alfred, St. Eustache. The funeral will be in St. Eustache Friday.

He was the son of the late Fredrick Martell and Flavie Mombourquette, and a fishman until he moved to Montreal 25 years ago. His wife, the former Celiste Sampson, died in 1940 . He is survived by three daughters, Irene (Mrs. Herold Jones), Halifax; Rose (Mrs. Ronnie Lawrence), Califonia; Lola (Mrs. Ted St. Louis), Quebec; two sons, Aldore and Alfred, Twin Mountains, Quebec; three sisters, Catherine (Mrs. Hubert Sampson), L'Ardoise; Sabine (Mrs. Charles Sampson), Rockdale; Obiline (Mrs. Leo Vaughan), Boston; two brothers, Charlie, Martinique; Maurice, Morell, P.E.I. and 11 grandchildren. The funeral service is at the Roman Catholic Church in Two Mountains, Quebec, on Saturday.

L'Ardoise- Murdock Martell, born in L'Ardoise, died Monday in New Jersey. He was 69. Son of the late William Martell, he left Nova Scotia 41years ago and worked for several years in a radio factory. Mr. Martell is survived by his wife Elizabeth; three daughters and several grand children in New Jersey; a sister, Loretta (Mrs. Edward Keigan), brothers, George and Wilfred, Halifax.

Born in Rockdale, he was the son of Veronica (Sampson) of Rockdale and the late Charles Mombourquette. He was employed in the maintenance department of the heavy water plant in Glace Bay. Surviving are his wife, the former Caren Savoy; a sister Anne Marie, St. Joseph's, N.B.' one brother, Rev. James, parish priest of Louisdale. He was a member of Holy  Redeemer Church, Sydney. He was a well known in the sports of soccer, hockey and baseball and he was a member of the Leisure Skaters Club. He is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy Daye; three sons, Blaise, Daniel, Glen, all of Sydney; three brothers, Neil, Angus, both of Sydney; Alex, Cornwall, Ont.; five sisters. Catherine MacDonald, Sydney River; Mamie Morrison, Jane Pearson, both of Sydney; Helen (Mrs. Bill Rudderham), Kingston, Ont.; Mamie (Mrs. Ken Babkirk), Moncton; two stepdaughters, Susan Genter. Sydney; Jodi Dingall, South Bar; four stepson. James Carey, Riverview, N.B.; Murray, Alan, both of South Bar; Lloyd, St. Catharines, Ont.; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandchild. He had resided in Halifax since 1939. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving from 1939-1945 with the RCNVR on various ships. As a younger man, he served with the RCMP in both Ontario and New Brunswick. He was employed as a security guard at the Sydney Steel Plant, retiring in 1963. He was also employed for a time with the Testing Unit at the Cape Breton Sports Centre. He was a member of the RCMP Veterans Association. Born February 13, 1933 in Eden, Inverness Co., he was a son of the late James and Charlotte (MacLean) MacLean. He received his early education at Sydney Academy and spent a year at Xavier Junior College, Sydney. He graduated from Acadia University with a bachelor of arts degree and a bachelor of divinity degree from McGill. He held a testamur in theology from Presbyterian College, McGill University. After studies at the University of Glasgow and Ottawa Teachers College, he took his theological education at University of Trinity College and St. Augustine's Seminary, Toronto. He was ordained to the priesthood on November 30, 1992, in St. Anthony Daniel Church, Sydney. Prior to this, he served the Anglican Diocese of Nova Scotia. In 1992, he was appointed assistant at St. Anthony Daniel Parish, Sydney; in 1993, he became the parish priest of St. Joseph's, South West Margaree and St. Patrick's, North East Margaree; in 1995, he served in Holy Guardian Angels Parish, L'Ardoise. Due to health reasons, he retired from active ministry earlier this year. Surviving are sisters, Isabelle Cooper, Sydney; Naomi Walker, Dartmouth; brothers, Charles, Toronto; Angus, Sydney. Born in Lower L'Ardoise, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Maggie (Murphy) McGrath. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She spent all of her adult life in Spryfield. She was employed for many years at Kentucky Fried Chicken. She was an avid traveller; a member of the Golden Age Social Centre, Spryfield; a bowler with various leagues in Spryfield and Halifax, and an enthusiastic Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs fan. She was most importantly a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. In 1920 she was hired as a cook's helper at the Queen Hotel in Halifax and worked there until she married. In 1940 she was appointed as Postmistress of the West L'Ardoise Post Office, where she kept this post for 5 years. She taught french religion at Sunday school as well as at home to neighboring children. Her main hobby was sewing and cooking. She is survived by daughters, Isabelle (John), Bedford; Linda (Pat), L'Ardoise; sons, Clifford (May), Halifax; Stanley (Yvonne); Allen (MaryAnne); ten grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. MARTELL, Alphonse C. "Phon" - 94, L'Ardoise, died Friday, August 20, 1999, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in L'Ardoise, Richmond Co., he was a son of the late Passia and Rose (Sampson) Martell. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Hilda Martell; sisters, Lena Sampson, Sister Marion Cephas; brothers, Angus, Bertram, Amable, Ephraim, Richard, Edmond. Phon will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews. He will always be remembered as a quiet and peaceful man who gave much to his community. Phon designed the renovations at the Dr. W.B. Kingston Clinic, as well designing the L'Ardoise Community Centre, Holy Guardian Angels Church and Holy Guardian Angels Funeral Home. He also made the plot plan for the parish cemetery. Phon worked in the building trade industry as a supervisor and had a diploma in architectural design. MOMBOURQUETTE, Frank James "Frankie I" - 83, L'Ardoise, died Friday, April 14, 2000, in the Strait Richmond Hospital. Born in L'Ardoise July 3, 1916, he was a son of the late Alex and Maggie (Barron) Mombourquette. He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Parish and was very much involved in all aspects and roles of community life. He was a long-time member of the Parish Council, an usher at church, a founding member of the Dr. Wm B. Kingston Memorial Clinic, The L'Ardoise Men's Club, and Acadian Festival. He retired from driving the mail between St. Peters and L'Ardoise after 56 years of service. He had operated Frank's Bus and Taxi Service from 1943-1971. He was co-owner and operator of S & M Texaco Service Station from 1962-1967. January 1, 1963, he started his own company "Frank's Fuels". His business motto was "Let's Be Warm Friends", a motto he always lived by. He served as Municipal councilor for District 15 L'Ardoise from 1952-1967 and as a member of the Richmond Municipal School Board during the same period of time. In 1992, on the occasion of 125th Anniversary of Confederation, he was awarded the confederation medal for his dedicated service to the community. He was an ardent member of the Progressive Conservative Party. Frank is survived by his wife of 58 years the former Kathleen Martell; daughters, Rose (Joe) Cooke, St. Peters; Patricia (Rene) Samson, Betty Anne (Emile) Boulet, L'Ardoise; Jeannette (Paul) Parry, Lower Sackville; Germaine (Robert) Gargan, Halifax; sons, Frankie (Florence MacMillan) and Gregory (Barbara Pilon), L'Ardoise. Born in Lower L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late James R. Mombourquette and Minnie (Sampson) Mombourquette. Surviving are his wife, Jean, Spryfield; sisters, Matilda Clannon, Lower L'Ardoise; Mary Slate, Spryfield; several nieces and nephews. McGEAN (MacNeil), Louise Marie - Richmond Villa, St. Peter's, formerly of L'Ardoise, Richmond Co., passed away peacefully in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, on Sunday, August 6, 2000. Born in L'Ardoise, on September 24, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Malcolm J. and Laura (Boyd) MacNeil. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by husband, Amos E. MacGean; daughters, Maura Calder (Terry), Karen McGrath (David) and Stephanie McGean (Rodney). After working in Halifax, she returned to her family home in L'Ardoise, married and raised her family. She was employed for several years as a para- professional with the Richmond County School Board. Louise was a very active, community- minded person. She was a charter member and life member of the St. Peter's and Area Lioness Club, having served three terms as president; a charter member and life member of the Strait Richmond East Hospital Auxiliary, serving two terms as president; a member of the Coordinating Council of Hospital Auxiliaries for the Strait Richmond Hospital; a member of the Ladies Social Club in L'Ardoise; a member of the CWL in L'Ardoise, having served as president; a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 110, L'Ardoise. She is survived by her sister, Gertrude Pertus (John), Halifax; grandchildren, Samantha, Ainslie, Sean, Breann, Brittany and Gillian; several nieces and nephews; numerous relatives. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Fraser MacNeil (RN, Beth Israel Hospital, New Jersey), Bernice (Gordon) Doucette (Ingonish); twin brother, Bernard MacNeil "Alberte" (Dorval, Que.). Funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 9, in Holy Guardian Angels Church, L'Ardoise, at 11 a.m., Rev. John MacIntyre officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, L'Ardoise. Visitation will be today from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, August 8, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., in L'Ardoise Funeral Home. Family flowers only. MARTELL, Claire Anastasia "Clara" - 87, L'Ardoise, died October 20, 2000. She was a victim of Alzheimer disease for approximately 27 years. She was a resident of Richmond Villa, St. Peter's, for the past 13 years. Born in L'Ardoise, she was a daughter of the late William and Virginia (Fougere) MacNeil. She is survived by her husband, Ralph, L'Ardoise; daughter, Mavis and son-in-law, Claude, Petit De Grat; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by sisters, Mary Hughes, Beatrice Glazebrook, Cecelia Mombourquette; brothers, William and Leo. She was the last surviving member of the family. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in Holy Guardian Angel Church, 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, Rev. John J. MacIntyre officiating. Burial of ashes will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home. Family requests no flowers please. MOMBOURQUETTE, George - L'Ardoise, passed away peacefully in the Strait Richmond Hospital on Tuesday, January 9, 2001. Born in L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late Urban and Louise (Martell) Mombourquette. George was an employee of Stora for 28 years. He was a past member of the St. Peters and area Lions Club, L'Ardoise Men's Club and a member of the Holy Guardian Angel Choir. He has always been an active worker of the community. George will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survived by his wife, Rita; two sons, Claude, L'Ardoise; Dr. Terence Mombourquette, Sydney; one sister and three brothers, Marie Pilon; Roy and Maxwell, L'Ardoise; Joe, Salmon River, Digby Co. There will be no visitation. Body has been given to Dalhousie Medical Research. A memorial mass will be held in Holy Guardian Angel Church, L'Ardoise on Saturday, January 13, at 2 p.m., Father MacIntyre and Father MacIsaac officiating.
