HARKER, Roy Keith - 74, L'Ardoise, Richmond Co., passed away December
30, 1996, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Lewvan,
Sask., he was a son of the late Lloyd and Gertrude (Cooke) Harker. He
was a member of the Holy Guardian Angels Parish, L'Ardoise. He resided
in L'Ardoise for the past 45 years, following membership in the Canadian
Armed Forces during the Second World War. He was a self-employed well
known carpenter in various parts of the province. He will be truely
missed by his wife of 54 years, the former Rose Ann Peters; daughters,
Myra (Mrs. Raymond O'Brien), Gladys Harker, Janet (Mrs. Paul Landry),
Sally (Mrs. Paul Briand), Paula (Mrs. Leo Sampson), all of L'Ardoise;
Mary (Mrs. Sam Sudeyko), Ontario; Edyth (Mrs. Graham MacDonald),
Bedford; Cecille Chapadeau, Sackville; sons, Keith and wife Simone,
Weston and wife Linda, all of Sackville; Gary and wife Josie, Halifax;
Chester and wife Shirley, John and wife Rose, Glenn and wife Nadine, all
of L'Ardoise; sister, Gladys Schilds; brothers, James, Reg, all of
British Columbia; 31 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter, Carol; son, Ivan;
grandson, Michael. Visitation 10 a.m.-9 p.m. today, January 2, in
L'Ardoise Parish Funeral Parlour. Funeral mass 10 a.m. Friday in Holy
Guardian Angels Church, L'Ardoise, Rev. John MacIntyre officiating.

HARKER, Rose Anna "Rosie" - age 69, of
Lower l' Ardoise, died unexpectedly on June 12, 1999, at home. Born in
L'Ardoise, Richmond Co., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and
Angeline (Mombourquette) Peters. She was a member of the Holy Guardian
Angel Parish, L'Ardoise. She was active in her community as a member of
the l'Ardoise Fire Department Auxilary; the Ladies Social Club; the
Seniors Jolly Club; the Annual l'Ardoise Festival; and past long time
member of the l'Ardoise Legion Ladies Auxilary. Rosie was employed for
several years with the l'Ardoise Parish as housekeeper. She will be
forever remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great
grandmother, and friend. She is survived by daughters, Myra O'Brien
(Raymond), Gladys Harker, Janet Landry (Paul), Sally Briand (Paul),
Paula Sampson (Leo), all of L'Ardoise; Mary Sudeyko (Sam) Ont.; Edyth
MacDonald (Graham), Bedford; Cecille Chapaveau, Sackville; sons, Keith
(Simone), Weston (Linda), all of Sackville; Gary (Josie), Halifax;
Chester (Shirley), John (Rosie), Glenn (Nadine), all of l'Ardloise;
sister, Sadie Sampson (Lorenzo), l'Ardloise; brother, Edward Peters
(Fran), Timberlea; 32 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Roy
Keith, daughter, Carol; son, Ivan; grandson, Michael; granddaughter,
Erin; sister, Marion Jeans. Visitation will be today, June 14, 2-9 p.m.,
Tuesday June 15, 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., both in l'Ardoise Funeral Home.
Funeral mass will be held Wednesday, June 16, at 10 a.m. in Holy
Guardian Angel Church, l'Ardloise, with Rev. John MacIntyre officiating.
Donations may be made to the W.B. Kingston Memorial Clinic, l'Ardloise,
l'Ardoise Fire Department, or the charity of choice. Arrangements have

HANSON, Harold Joseph "Hap" - 81,
Halifax and Lower L'Ardoise, Cape Breton, passed away suddenly but
peacefully Sunday, June 1, 2003, in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial
Building, QEII. Born in Halifax, September 27, 1921, he was a son of the
late William and Bridget (Walsh) Hanson. "Hap", as he was
known, was always up for a party and good times. In his younger years,
heloved to dance, sing and play the ukulele. A veteran of the Second
World War, Hap proudly served his country as a member of the Princess
Louise Fusiliers and twice was wounded in action. Following the war, he
joined theR.C.M.P. Marine Division, until the call of overseas service
beckoned once again. At the outbreak of the Korean Conflict, Hap
re-enlisted in the army as a member of the North Nova Scotia
Highlanders, 27th Brigade. Eventually, he became a drill sergeant in the
Black Watch, training recruits in both Aldershot and Gagetown. After
retiring in 1966, he worked at H.M.C.S. Dockyard, Halifax. Hap was a
member of the Black Watch (RHR) of Canada Association, the Black Watch
Mess and The Chief's and P.O.'S Mess, Windsor Park and Stadacona. After
40 years of membership in the L'Ardoise Royal Canadian Legion, Branch
110, he transferred to the Calais Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 162,
Sackville. Surviving are daughters, Juanita (Michael) Healy, Dartmouth;
Deborah (Jay) Campbell, Calgary; Robyn (Ron) Peterson, Cambridge;
grandchildren, Adriane Healy, Halifax; Evan Peterson, Japan;
LylePeterson, Halifax; great-grandson, Cameron Healy-Comeau. Hap is also
survived by sisters, Geraldine (Jack) Johnston, Middle Sackville; Joan
Holman, Stewiacke; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his
beloved wife, Evangeline in 1977; daughter, Bridget Rebecca in infancy;
brothers, Daniel, William and Arthur; sisters, Florence, Anna-Mae and
Marion. No visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of
Cruikshank's Funeral Home, 2032 Robie St., Halifax. Memorial celebration
will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic
Church, Halifax, Father Michael Walsh officiating. Reception to follow
in the Sackville Legion. Burial of ashes will take place in Mount
Calvary Cemetery, L'Ardoise, at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 8. Memorial
donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia would be greatly

HANSEN, William Ernest "Bill" - 88, Halifax, died Saturday,
October 23, 2004, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in
L'Ardoise, Cape Breton and raised in Halifax, Bill was a son of the late
John (Johannes) and Annie (Morvan) Hansen of Halifax. While still in his
teens, Bill began working as a longshoreman on the Halifax waterfront.
During his more than 50 years as a longshoreman, most of them as a
foreman, Bill was an active member of the International Longshoremen's
Association holding various executive positions. He was a member of a
team of Halifax longshoremen who traveled to various Great Lakes ports
in the United States in 1959 and 1960, to assist in the development of
personnel to service ports of the newly opened St. Lawrence Seaway. Bill
held a lifetime membership at Windsor Park Sergeant's Mess, where he
competed successfully in many dart tournaments over the years. Bill was
also a huge fan of boxing and baseball. He is survived by children, son,
Fred (Vonnie); daughter, Chris (Claude Carter), all of Halifax. He is
also survived by grandchildren, Sean Hansen, Heather Hansen-Dunbar, Jill
Carter and Alex Carter, all of Halifax; sisters, Nora Granter and Marie
Hansen; brothers, Edward Hansen and Gerald Hansen, all of Halifax; as
well as many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his wife,
Elizabeth Lillian "Lil" (Brigley) in 1997; by brothers, Walter
in 1988, Raymond and Fred both killed in 1940 in the service of their
country; and a brother and sister in infancy. Bill is resting in
Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, where the family will
receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today, and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday in Saint Agnes
Roman Catholic Church, 6903 Mumford Rd., Father Lloyd O'Neill
officiating. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.

QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation (please specify Unit 8.1, the New

HILL (Samson), Ruby Ann - Halifax, passed away peacefully on Monday,
February 26, 2007, in Northwood Centre. She was a daughter of the late
Fatima and Lawrence Samson (L'Ardoise, Cape Breton/Halifax). She is
survived by her son, Raymond (Mary) Hill, Dartmouth; grandchildren and
great-grandchildren; brothers, Howard (Barb) Samson, Sherbrooke, and Leo
(Doreen) Samson, Victoria, B.C. She was predeceased by her husband,
Henry "Harry" Hill; son and daughter-in-law, Percy Arthur and Theresa
Hill; son, Gordon (Truro); sister, Harriett "Hattie" Mustin (Halifax);
brothers, Gerald Samson (Halifax), Wallace Samson (Scarborough, Ont.),
and Joseph "Bud" Samson (Ottawa). Cremation has taken place under the
direction of Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, Robie Street, Halifax.
There will be no visitation by request. A family graveside service will
be held at a later date. A special thank you to the staff of Northwood 4
Centre, as well as to all who have sent cards and letters of condolence.
