Patrick Campbell – The passing of Capt. Patrick Campbell, a life-long
resident of St, Peter’s, occurred at Halifax on the 26th
inst. The late Capt. Campbell was a veteran commander and in late years
was a valued pilot in the Cape Breton pilotage district. We hope to have
more particulars of the funeral in our next issue. We extend out sincere
sympathies to the bereaved family. Clarence Campbell, a former manager
of the Royal Bank of Canada branch here, but is now manager of the
Antigonish branch is a son.

We
regret to report the death of Patrick Campbell who passed away recently
at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. H. Landry, (Catherine) 34 Clifton
St. in Halifax, where he had resided for the past eight years. The late
Capt. Campbell was born in St. Peter’s and is survived by his wife,
three daughters and four sons, John, Sydney, Clarence, Antigonish,
Daniel, St. Peter’s, Arthur, Halifax, Catherine (Mrs. J. H. Landry),
Elizabeth, (Mrs. Rannie MacDonald), Marion, Mrs. Gordon Ryan), Halifax.
Also several grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The funeral
services were held from St. Peter’s Church. Interment was in the
parish cemetery.

L'Ardoise- Funeral service for Mrs. Justine Campbell of L'Ardoise was
held
in the Church of the Guardian Angel with Father Gregory Sampson
officiating. She died here at the age of 92. She was the wife of the late Martin
Campbell of L'Ardoise, and the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lewis
Boucher of River Bourgeois, Richmond county. She lived most of her life
in L'Ardoise and was a member of the Church of the Guardian Angel. she
is survived by five sons, Larry of Saugus, Mass; Felix, Halifax;
Leonard, Halifax; James, Dartmouth; Martin Cornelius, Purcell's Cove;
four daughters, Bertha ( Mrs. Isaac Richard), L'Ardoise; Minnie (Mrs. Percy Martell), Montreal; Dora (Mrs. Fabian Landry),
Peterborough, Ont. and Theresa (Mrs. Cyril Myatt), Florida; Four sisters
Mrs. Norman McKenzie, St. Peter's; Mrs. Damien Sampson, St. Peters; Mrs
John O'Brian, New York; Sister Jean, a sister of Charity, Rimouski,
Quebec. She is also survived by two brothers, Charles Boucher of River
Bourgeois and Lawrence Boucher of New Jersey; by 35 grandchildren, 32
great-grandchildren and by one great-great-grandchild. Interment was in
the cemetery of the Church of the Guardian Angel, L'Ardoise

Lawrence Joseph Campbell, 63, native of L'Ardoise, died Wednesday in
France following an accident aboard a ship. He was son of the late
Martin Campbell, and a member of the merchant Marine. Surviving are four
brothers, Martin, and Leonard, Purcell's Cove; James, Point Edward;
Felix, Halifax; four sisters, Bertha (Mrs. Isaac Richard), L'Ardoise;
Dora (Mrs. F.E. Landry), Peterborough, Ont.; Minnie (Mrs. Percy
Martell), Montreal; and Theresa (Mrs. Cyril Myatt), Miami, Flordia.

ST. PETER'S - Mrs. Charles I. Cameron, 94, of
St. Peter's, died Wednesday in Richmond Villa. Born in L'Ardoise, she
was the former Mary Ellen Samson, a daughter of the late Urbain and
Maria (MacNeil) Samson. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Blance M. Martell,
L'Ardoise; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her
husband. The body is at home in St. Peter's. Funeral will be tomorrow at
2 p.m. in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church. Rev. Joseph Lynch
officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. C. Cochrane - Port Morien. Funeral Service were held Decenber, 11th,
at St. Mary's Church for Mrs, Clarance Cochrane, 86, of Port Morien, who
died December 8th, 1978. A native of L'Ardoise, she was the former
Cerina Gracie and resided in Glace Bay until 15 years ago when she moved
to Port Morien. She was a member of St. Mary's Parish. She is survived
by her husband, Clarence, daughters (Stella) Mrs. Russell Waren,
(Blanche) Mrs. Patrick Burroughts, both of Glace Bay, (Kaye) Mrs., Harry
Pino, Sydney, (Shirley) Mrs. John MacDonald, (Kathleen) Mrs. Harry
Botham, all of Ontario and Florence Elvira at home, sons Ernest, Glace
Bay, Joseph, Port Morien, Thomas, William and John, all of Ontario,
sisters (Alvina) Mrs. Charles Hall, Dominion, (Julia) Mrs. James Young,
Glace Bay, Sarah Gracie, Boston. There are 26 grandchilden. She was
predeceased by two sons and one sister. Interment was made in the parish
cemetery. The funeral was directed by Curry's Funeral Home.

Campbell, Mary Agnes, 69, L' Ardoise - died Monday April 6, 1992 at
Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in L'Ardoise, she was the
daughter of the late Edward and Annie (Barrett) Mombourquette. She
lived and worked for many years in Halifax, where she was a member of
St. Stephen's parish. Upon her second marriage she moved to L'Ardoise
where she was a generous supporter of various religious causes within
and outside her parish. Mrs. Campbell is survived by her second husband,
Felix, L'Ardoise; two brothers, Albert, L'Ardoise and Dan, Halifax; five
sisters, Laura, (Mrs. Basil Fogerty; Theresa, (Mrs. Harry Johnson) both
of Halifax; Lillian (Mrs. Earl Ellis); Elizabeth, (Mrs. Albert Roy); and
Annie Mae (Mrs. Harry LeRue) all of L'Ardoise, several stepchildren;
several step grandchildren and great step grandchildren. She was
predeceased by her first husband, Fabien Deveau; two brothers Felix and
Paul and one sister Margaret MacAvoy. The late Mrs. Campbell will
be in Holy Guardian Angel Parish Funeral Home today and Thursday until 2
pm. Funeral Mass will be held in Holy Guardian Angel Roman Catholic
Church on Thursday at 2:30 pm. Burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

General Hospital, Halifax. Born in Lower L'Ardoise, Richmond County, she
was a daughter of the late Patrick E. and Mary Jane (Gracie) Sampson.
She was a member of St. Mary's Basilica, Halifax. She is survived by two
sons, Kenneth Bellefontaine, Jerome Bellefontaine, both of Kingston,
Ont.; daugther, Frances Gouchie, Sussex, N.B.; nine grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rachel MacLellan, New Glasgow; Mamie,

COTE, Gerard - 70, L'Ardoise, Richmond County, formerly of Dartmouth,
died January 6, 1994, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Grande
Greve, Richmond County, he was a son of the late Donald (Dan) and
Elizabeth (Barron) Cote. He was retired from the Department of National
Defense H.M.C. Dockyard. He served during the Second World War with the
Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserves on the corvettes and later, for
21 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was then employed with
Canada Post in the metro area. He is survived by his wife, the former
Marie Evangeline Gaudet; three sons, Mark, Lake Echo; Michael, Jacques,
both of Dartmouth; two daughters, Cheryl (Mrs. Richard Edgett), Eastern
Passage; Lorraine, Dartmouth; four brothers, Daniel, Halifax; Alfred,
Gordon, both of St. Peter's; Nicholas, Victoria, B.C.; seven sisters,

CAMPBELL, Leonard Charles - 84, Halifax, died July 21, 1994, in Veterans
Memorial Building, Camp Hill Medical Centre. Born in L'Ardoise, Cape
Breton, he was a son of the late Martin and Justine (Boucher) Campbell.
He served in the Canadian Army from 1942-45. He was a former
longshoreman for over 35 years. He is survived by three daughters,
Barbara (Mrs. Stan (Butch) Adams), Lower Sackville; Betty (Mrs. Walter
Casson), Halifax; Diane (Mrs. George Leadley), L'Ardoise; brother,
Felix, L'Ardoise; two sisters, Dora (Mrs. Fabian Landry), Peterborough,
Ont.; Theresa (Mrs. Cyril Myatt), Dartmouth and Florida; seven
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his companion,
Cecelia Pello. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mildred (Briand)

Angels Parish. Margaret is survived by son, John Kelly and wife Nancy,

all of Point Michaud; stepdaughters, Elizabeth Stone, Lynche River;
Serena MacNeil, Mabou; Eva Robertson, Port Hood; brother, John H. Stone,

nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John Elias;

several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, E.

CAMPBELL, Felix Bernard - 92, died July 4, 2000,
in Strait Richmond Hospital, after a brief
illness. Born in L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late Martin and
Justina (Boucher) Campbell. He worked for many years in the Halifax area
and retired after 33 years service with Nova Scotia Light and Power in
1972. On retiring he moved back to the family home in L'Ardoise with his
first wife Mary (James) who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by
his second wife Agnes (Mombourquette) Deveau; an infant son of his first
marriage, Joseph; sisters, Cecelia, Bertha, Minnie and Dora; brothers,
Lawrence, Henry, Cornelius, Leonard and James. Surviving to miss him are
sister, Theresa Myatt, Florida; daughter, Ruth, Sackville; sons, John
and Joseph, both of Ontario; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
nieces and nephews. Visitation 2-4, 7- 9 p.m. today in L'Ardoise Funeral
Home. Funeral mass 2 p.m. Friday in Holy Guardian Angel Church,

CAMPBELL, Charles Joseph - 72, L'Ardoise, passed
away September 14, 2002, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in
Halifax, he was a son of the late Walter Arthur Campbell and Marie
Elizabeth Mombourquette, and stepfather Francis Mombourquette. He served
in the Merchant Navy, then in Customs for 37 years until he retired in
July 1982. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 110 and
L'Ardoise Men's Club. He was one of the founding members and first fire
chief of L'Ardoise Volunteer Fire Department. He was predeceased by his
loving wife, Helen (Barrett); sons, Francis and Charlie in infancy.
Surviving are son, George (Marlane); grandson, Joshua, Halifax; brother,
Harry (Nettie), Halifax; sisters, Dorothy Daniels, Toronto; Madlyn
(Clayton) Skerry, Manitoba; stepbrothers, Michael (Barbara), Walter
(Susan); stepsister, Robin (David) Biggs, all of Halifax. Cremation has
taken place. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held 2
p.m. Tuesday, September 17, in Holy Guardian Angels Church, L'Ardoise,
Rev. John MacIntyre officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Gordon Alexander Cote, 64, passed away
peacefully on June 5, 2003, at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston,
surrounded by his loving family. Born
in Grand Greve, Richmond County, he was the son of the late Donald (Dan)
and Elizabeth (Barron) Cote. Gordon was a former piper with the Black
Watch Regiment RCA. He was also a member of the Cape Breton Symphony
Orchestra. He was a well known fiddler and teacher. Gordon is survived
by his wife the former Gladys Stone; four sons, Roger, Halifax, Glen
(Kathy), Dartmouth; Darrin, St. Peter's and Dwayne, Halifax; two special
daughters, Ann Cortolla, Ontario and Carol Martell, L'Ardoise and four
grandsons, Brandon, Nicholas, Nathan and Jeremy. He is also survived by
three brothers, Alfred (Donna), St. Peter's, Dan (Alice),Halifax and
Nicholas (Annie), Victoria, B.C.; five sisters, Mrs. Margaret Harris,
Hants Co., Mrs. Anna Kerman, Moncton, Mrs. Mildred Roy, Toronto, Mrs.

Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Poirier) Paté, which was later changed to Pottie (formerly of L'Ardoise). She is survived by brother, William V. (Dorothy) Pottie, Glendale; niece, Linda Jewers, Ecum Secum; great-nieces, Evelyn, Port Dufferin; Marion Jewers, Halifax. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Henry; brothers, Edmund and Francis Pottie; sister, Mary Lohnes. No visitation by family request. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, in J.A. Snow Funeral Home Chapel, 2666 Windsor St. Burial in St. John's Cemetery.
