The
Mombourquette Family
|
|
|
It is believed in the Bordeaux Region of France in the early 1700's
is the first recorded member of Antoine
Mombourquette's lineage to be found living on
Île
Royal or as it is known today "Cape Breton Island". |
| The original spelling of the Mombourquette
family surname is believed to have been "MAUBOURGUET".
Antoine
is said to have arrived in Louisbourg at some point in time around the
year of 1750. This info is courtesy of Daniel E. H. Mombourquette of Nova
Scotia who has found record of Antoine as a Sea Captain, in the French
Fleet and in Louisbourg on June 5, 1750. The record found in "The Societe Douzan" pertains to a legal dispute between Antoine and two other gentlemen.
1750 of course is the year when many French Acadians, and as well their
friends and others finally returned to their former homes in Acadia. Upon retirement from the French Fleet and undoubtedly looking for land among people with whom he felt a kinship Antoine Mombourquette settled in L'Ardoise, Cape Breton. The year was about 1763. In 1764 Antoine Mombourquette married Charlotte Samson also of L'Ardoise. Charlotte who was born in Port Toulouse [St. Peters] Cape Breton in 1744 was the daughter of Mathieu and Marguerite [Pouget] Samson of L'Ardoise. Antoine and Charlotte had ten children. These were then: Omere b. 1765, Joseph b. 1766, Alexandre b. 1768 Martin b. 1770, Antoine b. 1772, Firmin b. 1774 Juste b. 1776, Marie b. 1780, Polycarp b. 1784 Celeste b. 1788 At the moment this is all of the background information I have on the Mombourquette Family of L'Ardoise. As further information becomes available I will upon confirmation update this file. |
