The Maillet Family
of
L'Ardoise, Cape Breton

 by:  Paul Landry

This family is a work in progress and additions and corrections are most welcome!

The Maillet family of L'Ardoise can trace their family back to Francois Maillet, son of Jean (Baptiste) Maillet and Claire Langlois, and his wife Louise Poirier, daughter of Charles Poirier and Marguerite Vigneau.

Francois had passed away by 1811 when his widow was enumerated in the census. In the census, she was listed living with 2 males between the ages of 14 and 60, and 3 females between the ages of 14 and 60 (including herself). All four of the children living with her were unmarried according to the returns. The family also owned 3 sheep and 1 vessel. Francois Maillet's sister, Marie-Josephe Maillet, married Francois Samson and settled in the L'Ardoise area as well. Many of the L'Ardoise Samsons can trace their families back to this couple.

In 1813,  two of Francois and Louise's Maillet's sons, Charles, age 31, and Benoni, age 25, are found in the military census of  the L'Ardoise Area.
