The LeRoux Family
of
L'Ardoise, Cape Breton

Jean Philippe LeRoux was the first of the LeRoux line to settle in L'Ardoise, N.S. A militia roll of 1813 lists him as being born in France, and of being a mariner. On the roll he states that he owns four acres of land and has a wife, two boys and two girls. 
  

In the 1811 census, Jean Philippe and his father-in-law, Bruneau Samson, lived in the same house. In the household were the following people: one m/f over 60, one m under 14, two f under 14, one f 14-60 and two m 14-60. They had 3 cattle, 4 sheep and no vessels. 

In 1824 there was a transfer of land in L'Ardoise by deed from Jean Philippe LeRoux to Anthony and Philip Mombourquette. In 1825 were was a transfer of land in L'Ardoise by deed from Jean Philippe LeRoux to François Bouton. 

In the 1838 census, Jean Philippe was listed as a rigger and there were 6 people in his household: one family head, two males over 14, three females over 14. In 1838 there was a transfer of land in L'Ardoise by deed from Jean Philippe to Anthony Brymer.
